Week 3 Rankings

#1. Virginia Tech -

No one really anticipated a close game against William & Mary, but after beating Florida State on Labor day, the Hokies were prone to the typical "hangover game". Fortunately, they weren't phased and rolled the Tribe 62-17.

#2. UVA -

As we mentioned in our season previews, the difference between a four win season and an eight win season will be inches, not yards. With an opportunity to win late in the 4th, at Indiana, the Hoos' came up short.

#3. JMU -

The Duke's trip to Norfolk ended quickly thanks to storms rumbling through the area. It didn't take long for JMU to show their dominance once again as they jumped out to a 17-0 lead, and the game was called after the first quarter.

#4. Liberty -

In Liberty's opener against ODU, the team answered many questions and looked much better than projected. However, a week later and all of those questions are back. Defensively, this team is still struggling to defend the run and surrendered 449 rushing yards en-route to a 38-14 loss to Army

#5. Richmond -

Head Coach Russ Huesman has finally found life in his offense through Quarterback Kevin Johnson. Even though the Spiders looked bad in their opener at UVA, that's an FBS program. So, in the games that truly matter, Richmond is 1-0.

#6. ODU -

After jumping out to a 20-7 lead, it looked like the Monarchs had turned a corner from their loss a week ago. Then the 3rd quarter happened and they squandered their lead, eventually losing 28-20 to conference rival FIU.

#7. William & Mary -

The highlight of the Tribe's game at Virginia Tech was the honoring of head coach Jimmye Laycock. Other than that, just about everything went wrong. Not a huge deal though; beating Virginia Tech wasn't on anyone's radar. This week however, they welcome a budding FCS power, Elon.

#8. Norfolk State -

Spartan fans are a bit frustrated after this weekend, and really, who wouldn't be? Falling behind 17-0 and then not being given a chance to make a comeback due to the weather would frustrate anyone. But truthfully, Spartan fans should probably be thankful. Another 3 quarters and that score could have been much worse.

#9. Hampton -

Winning against Shaw in the season opener was nice but eventually head coach Robert Prunty will be judged on his ability against FCS opponents. Traveling to Monmouth and getting sent back with a 56-28 loss is not a good start.

#10. VMI -

VMI has been bad for a long time and often fans use the excuse of "being a military school". However, their arch-rival The Citadel is a military school and despite being off to a similar 0-2 start, they've lost closes games to competitive teams. The Keydets on the other-hand were just blasted by Wofford 59-14.
